GATE 2020 – Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a computer-based standardized PG engineering entrance exam.

GATE 2020 – Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a computer-based standardized PG engineering entrance exam. It is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and 7 Indian Institute of Technology at Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, and Roorkee. This exam is held with an aim to examine the understanding of various engineering and science undergraduate subjects on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Ministry of Human Resources Development (Department of Higher Education),  and Government of India. GATE Score is valid for a period of 3 years and it is also used by PSUs for junior engineer and other recruitments.  

GATE is also recognized by institutes outside India such as Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. From the last couple of years, GATE has been opened to international students from the other countries also such as Nepal, Sri lanka, Ethiopia, and United Arab Emirates.

 

 

GATE 2020 Conducting Body:

 

Each institute gets a chance to conduct the GATE exam in every 8 years and going by that sequence, IIT Delhi is expected to conduct the GATE 2020. However it will be announced soon.

Exam consists for a total of 24 subject papers where statistics is the newest addition. Candidates are free to choose any paper according to their plans and degree. As they have to choose only one subject out of the list and appear for it, they must choose their subject wisely. Firstly check out the list of subjects and then analyze the area of interest, specialization in graduation, scope of growth etc.

 

The questions in GATE exam are distributed as follows:

55 questions of the subject Chosen

10 questions of General Aptitude to test the language and the analytical skills of the candidate

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2020

 

Before registering for any exam, candidates should be ensured that they meet all the eligibility criteria for that particular exam. Students who are planning to appear for GATE must check their eligibility criteria for appearing in the exam. It is important to do so before filling the application form because if the candidate applies for the exam without checking the criteria, the application is liable to be rejected.

 

Following is the eligibility criteria for GATE exam:

    • 4-years B.Tech (after 10+2) in any stream or
    • 3-years B.Tech lateral entry (after B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering/Technology).
    • Final year candidates may also apply.
    • Age Limit - There is no age limit for the candidates who are appearing for this exam. They can appear for this exam as many times as they wish to apply.

Important Dates [GATE 2020 Online Examination

 

GATE exam dates are the most important thing that a candidate seeks. It is expected to be held in the month of February 2020. Generally the registration for the exam starts from the month of September.

Paper Structure of GATE 2020

 

After syllabus, pattern is the next thing which candidates must definitely know as it will help them prepare in a much better manner.

The GATE 2020 Exam consists of two types of questions:

 

    1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
    2. Numerical Answer Type (NAT)

There are objective type questions in the first part. Some question carry 1 mark while some questions will be carrying 2 marks Each question have 4 options as the answer. Out of all the given options the candidate has to choose the correct answer. There is negative marking for every wrongly attempted question. For 1 mark questions 1/3rd marks will be deducted and for 2 mark question 2/3 marks will be  deducted. There is no negative marking for numerical ability type questions.

 

The syllabus will be different for each paper. However, the General Aptitude section is common in all the papers.

 

 

GATE 2020 Syllabus

 

GATE exam Syllabus is the most important thing because this is how every student gets the idea of what all topics are needed to be study. Only after knowing the syllabus students can decides and make plan for preparations.

 

Syllabus for General Aptitude (GA)

Verbal Ability: English grammar, verbal deduction, critical reasoning, and Sentence completion,  word groups, Verbal analogies, instructions.

Numerical Ability: Numerical estimation, data interpretation numerical computation, and numerical reasoning

 

Students have to type in the answers using the virtual keypad available on the screen, for the second type of questions. Facility of on-screen calculator is also be provided for the students.

 

 

Duration and Examination Type

 

 In GATE exam there are 65 multiple choice and numerical questions with time duration of 3-hours. It is an online computer based test where questions are shown on a computer screen in random sequence. There are two ways for students to attempt questions. For MCQ type they can select one answer from the options and for the numerical answer type question they can enter digit using a mouse on a virtual keyboard (keyboard of the computer will be disabled).For rough work blank sheets will be provided to the candidates which they are needed to return when the exam is over.

 

 

GATE 2020 Scorecard

 

 After few days of exam qualified candidates are able to download scorecard from the official website. Students have to make sure that they download scorecard within the deadlines mentioned in official brochure otherwise they have to pay some extra money to get scorecard for GATE exam. Hard copy format is not available for aspirants.

 

 

GATE 2020 Application Procedure

 

 Filling the application form for GATE is the next step after checking the eligibility criteria. It is necessary to fill form as it is required as a prior condition for the further processes like getting the admit card and appearing for the exam. There is no other way to fill form than online procedure. Application form is only be filled through online portal.

Students have to furnish some details such as their name, address, educational details etc in the application procedure. Some important documents are needed to be upload .  After this application fee is needed to be paid for the exam by the student. All these procedures should be complete before the last date.

 

 

GATE 2020 Result

 

 When all the above-mentioned  processes are been calculated only then the result is declared on the official website. Result is released for all the GATE candidates at the same time. GATE score is only valid for 3 years from the date when it is declared. Admissions for the M.Tech Programs and recruitments to various PSUs is also based on the GATE score.

 

 GATE 2020 Score Calculation:

 

As per the number of papers given by the aspirant the candidate’s final score for GATE is calculated. The GATE Score is the actual marks scored by students in the exam , for single session paper. Normalization process is used for the multi-session paper. Their is different calculations marks for each of them. Standardized formula is used for the calculation of scores in both the cases . After the Final calculation GATE Results is declared.

 

 GATE 2020 Answer Key and Response Sheet

Answer key and the response sheet of the candidates is available on the official website after the GATE exam is been conducted. Students can download the response sheet once it is been uploaded.

For all the GATE Papers answer Key is available online. The students are able to raise objections to the official answer key but it should be ensured that they submit the challenges before the last date. GATE  Result and Score Card is made available to the successful candidates after the evaluation.
