Railway Recruitment Boards are organisations under the Government of India, Ministry of Railways that manage the appointment of new employees to work in Indian railways. There are 21 boards situated in different parts of India:

Railway recruitment board conducts a written exam every year for recruitment to shortlist eligible candidates who applied for junior engineer and senior section engineer posts under various engineering departments (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Communication, Maintenance, Automobile etc.) under the board functional regional offices all over India.

Railway Recruitment boards (RRBs) has released a CENTRALISED EMPLOYMENT NOTICE (CEN) No.03/2018 for the Recruitment of Junior Engineer (JE), Junior Engineer (Information Technology) [JE(IT)], Depot Material Superintendant (DMS) and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA)} vacancies in different Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

Mode of selection - will be strictly on merit basis governed under RRB rules of recruitment process.

RRB JE Selection Procedure

Railway JE 2019 Exam will be conducted in following 4 different Phases:

1.    Computer Based Test  Stage I

2.    Computer Based Test Stage II

3.     Document Verification

4.    Medical Examination

 

* Based on the performance of candidates in the online examination, candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for document verification.

3. Document Verification/Medical Examination

If you get selected in the Second Stage CBT as per the cut-off decided by the Recruitment Board, you will be called for Document Verification. If required you have to complete the procedure of Medical Examination which will be notified later by the Recruitment Board.

 

 

Railway JE Exam Pattern

The entire recruitment process of RRB JE 2019 Exam shall involve, 1st stage Computer Based Test (CBT), 2nd stage CBT, and Document Verification/ Medical Examination as applicable. Selection is made strictly as per merit, on the basis of CBTs. The date, time and venue for all the activities viz CBTs and DV or any other additional activity as applicable shall be fixed by the RRB and shall be intimated to the eligible candidates in due course. Request for postponement of any of the above activity or for change of venue, date and shift will not be entertained under any circumstances.

Negative Marking: There shall be negative marking for incorrect answers in CBTs. 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question shall be deducted for each wrong answer.

Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%. These percentage of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

Railway JE Exam Pattern: 2nd Stage CBT

Short listing of Candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT exam shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in the 1st Stage CBT Exam. Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for 2nd Stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in 1st Stage CBT. However, Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit in total or for any specific category(s) as required to ensure availability of adequate candidates for all the notified posts.

General Intelligence & Reasoning:- Questions will be asked from analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetic reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning.

Arithmetic:- Algebra Basic algebra, factors & simplification, polynomials, Arithmetic Simple & compound interest, installments, taxation, shares & dividends, Ratio & proportion, percentage, time, distance & work, profit & loss, Pipes & Cisterns, Mensuration, Problem on Ages, Investment etc.. From Data Interpretation Use of Tables and Graphs, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart, Pictorial Graph etc.

General Awareness:- History, Indian Polity, Current Events, Geography, Economy etc. Focus will be on Current national & International events, banking, sports etc. Some questions from Finance & Marketing will also be asked in the exam. Focus will be on News related to Railway, Rail Budget, New Technologies & Reform in Indian Railway.

General Science:- Questions will be of Basic Concept of Science of class 12th level , Daily use science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Zoology.

TECHNICAL

Mechanical Engineering:- Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Design for static and dynamic loading, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Power Engineering, Steam Tables, Rankine, Brayton cycles with regeneration and reheat, I.C. Electrical Engineering:- Basics of Circuits and Measurement Systems, Electric Circuits and Fields, Signals and Systems,Electrical Machines, Power Systems, Control Systems, Electrical and Electronic Measurements, Analog and Digital Electronics, Power Electronics and Drives. In Electrical Engineering Key Subject for RRB exam is Electrical Machines, Basics of circuit & Power Electronics.

Electronics Engineering:- Electronic Devices: Energy bands in silicon, intrinsic and extrinsic silicon. Carrier transport in silicon: diffusion current, drift current, mobility, and resistivity. Generation and recombination of carriers.p-n junction diode, Zener diode, tunnel diode, BJT, JFET, MOS, MOSFET, LED, p-I-n and avalanche photo diode, Varactor Diode, Analog Circuits, Digital Circuits, Signal & Systems , Control System & Communication Basics. For Electronics & Communications people Focus on Basic & Fundamental Electronics Concept, Signal & Systems, Wireless Communication, Antennas, Arrays, EMFT.

Computers Engineering:- MS Office; Computer fundamentals & organization; C , C++ & Java language; Information systems; DBMS; System programming; Operating systems; UNIX; SAD; Data & Network communication; Web technology & programming; Software Engineering, Computer Networks, Databases, Algorithms.

Instrumentation & Measurement:- Basics of Circuits and Measurement Systems, Transducers, Mechanical Measurement and Industrial Instrumentation, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Signal Systems, Measurement System, Process Control, Control Systems & Instrumentation. Focus will be more on Transducers, Measurement & Control Systems. Some questions of Signal & System will be ask in the RRB exam.

Chemical Metallurgical Assistant:- Basic concepts of Fuel; Material Science; Polymers; Thermodynamics; Applied Chemistry; Computers; Instrumentation & Measurement; Environment & Pollution Control.

Environment & Pollution Control:- Nature of questions is Basie Type. It will be a test of General Engineering topics of Environment, Pollution Control Methods, Type of Pollution etc.

 

 

RRB JE Exam Pattern 2018

The RRB JE Exam Pattern 2018 is given below, have a look at different sections, total no.of questions, respective marks and time allotted for the test.

 

The exam is divided into 2 parts:

1.     Non Technical (General intelligence & Reasoning, Arithmetic, General awareness, General Science)

2.     Technical (Mechanical, civil, electrical, electronics & communications, Automobile, etc.)

The duration of the exam is 120 minutes i.e, 2 Hours

NOTE:

·         The examination is objective type

·         The paper consists of 150 Multiple Choice Questions out of which 60 questions are from non technical portion and 90 questions are from technical section.

·         Each question carries 1 mark and 1/3 mark deduct for wrong answer.

1. 1st Stage CBT:
* The questions for the online examinations will be generally in conformity with the educational standards and/or technical qualifications.

2. 2nd Stage CBT:
